Photovoltaics and batteries for stable energy
This innovative project will create a 7 MWp ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant. The system will also include battery storage facilities with a total capacity of 12.1 MWh, which corresponds to the average daily electricity consumption of 2,200 Czech households. The total value of the contract is close to CZK 150 million. The Greenbuddies team has the role of general contractor on this project. According to the client's specifications, it is responsible for the preparation of the implementation documentation, delivery of the necessary components, extensive construction work and commissioning of the power plant and battery storage. He is thus contributing to the building of a sustainable and modern energy sector in our country.
The battery storage facilities will take care of the accumulation of the generated energy surplus from the PV plants and at the same time provide power balancing services, thus contributing to the stability of the distribution grid. The battery supplier is Wattstor, a company that provides complete solutions for optimising energy consumption, storage and management, contributing to the decarbonisation and stability of the energy grid while reducing its costs.
Each container is approximately 20 feet (6 metres) long, with the largest of the batteries supplied weighing up to 43 tonnes. At full power, the batteries can operate for a minimum of 2 hours. The storage facility is based on so-called lithium iron phosphate cells (LiFePo4), which are characterised by their non-flammability and long service life.

Battery storage is an ideal solution for renewables to balance the transmission system in a stable manner. They are an environmentally friendly alternative to the current market problem of inefficient management of surplus energy. In addition to providing services that enhance grid stability, batteries are in demand for the ability to defer electricity consumption to a more convenient time.
